Equipment

Materials

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour spooned and leveled
  • 1.5 teaspoons baking powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon add a pinch of nutmeg if desired
  • 0.25 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 cup unsalted butter melted
  • 0.5 cup brown sugar light or dark
  • 0.5 cup applesauce unsweetened
  • 2 large eggs room temperature
  • 2 cups apples peeled and finely diced
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x5-inch loaf pan or line it with parchment paper.
  • In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, and salt.
  • In another bowl, whisk the melted butter, brown sugar, applesauce, eggs, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  • Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients. Stir gently until almost combined.
  • Fold in the diced apples, mixing just until evenly distributed.
  • Optional: Combine 2 tablespoons of brown sugar and 1 teaspoon of cinnamon. Pour half the batter into the pan, sprinkle the cinnamon sugar, then add the rest of the batter. Swirl lightly with a knife.
  • Bake for 50–60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  • Let the loaf cool in the pan for 10 minutes. Then remove and cool completely on a wire rack before slicing.
  • Serve warm with butter or enjoy at room temperature.

Notes

Store leftover Apple Cinnamon Bread in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
To freeze, wrap slices individually and store for up to 3 months. Reheat in the microwave for 10–15 seconds.
Substitute half the butter with applesauce for a lighter version.
Add nuts, raisins, or a cinnamon-sugar topping for variation.
