Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups peeled and diced pears
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon (optional)
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans or walnuts (optional)

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a 9x9 inch baking pan with parchment paper.
  • Melt the unsalted butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat until it turns golden brown and releases a nutty aroma.
  • Remove from heat and let the butter cool slightly. Stir in granulated sugar and brown sugar until well combined.
  • Add vanilla extract and mix again.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon.
  • Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet mixture, stirring until just combined. Fold in the diced pears and optional ingredients.
  • Spread the batter in the prepared pan and bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  • Let cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then lift out using parchment paper and cool completely on a wire rack before slicing.

Notes

Use ripe pears for the best flavor. Rotate the pan halfway through baking. For cutting, use a serrated knife for cleaner slices. Store in an airtight container; they last up to 5 days.
