Ingredients

  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon almond extract
  • ½ cup milk
  • ¼ cup sliced almonds for topping (optional)

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Prepare your baking pan by greasing an 8-inch square baking dish with butter or cooking spray.
  • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
  • In another bowl, beat the sugar and melted butter together until well combined. Then add the eggs one at a time, mixing thoroughly after each addition. Finally, stir in the almond extract and milk.
  • Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and gently fold them together until just incorporated.
  • Transfer the batter into your prepared baking pan and spread it evenly. Sprinkle the top with sliced almonds if using.
  • Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  • Allow the cake to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes, then transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

Always measure ingredients accurately. Allow butter to cool slightly before mixing to avoid cooking the eggs. Store leftovers covered at room temperature for up to 3 days, or refrigerate for a week.
