Ingredients
  

  • 2 medium ripe bananas, mashed
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips (optional)

Instructions
 

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Grease a 9x9-inch square baking dish with butter or non-stick spray.
  • In a large mixing bowl, mash the ripe bananas until smooth.
  • Add melted butter, sugar, eggs, and vanilla extract to the mashed bananas and mix until fully combined.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  • Gradually fold the dry ingredients into the wet mixture gently.
  • If using, fold in chocolate chips.
  • Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and spread evenly.
  • Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  • Allow to cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

Use overripe bananas for sweetness. Browning the butter adds flavor. Don’t rush the cooling time for better slicing. A dusting of powdered sugar or cocoa powder enhances presentation.
