Ingredients

  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup cocoa powder
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • ½ cup milk
  • ½ cup vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ¾ cup caramel sauce
  • ½ cup chocolate chips (optional)

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a cupcake tray with paper liners.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Whisk together until well blended.
  • In another bowl, whisk the eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract until smooth. Pour this mixture into the dry ingredients.
  • Stir the batter until just combined. Be careful not to overmix! Lumps are okay.
  • Fold in the chocolate chips if using.
  • Fill each cupcake liner about two-thirds full with batter.
  • Tap the tray gently to remove air bubbles and ensure even baking.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 18–20 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  • While the cupcakes cool slightly, warm your caramel sauce in the microwave for a few seconds to achieve a drizzle-able consistency.
  • Once cooled, swirl the warm caramel sauce on top of each cupcake.

Notes

Make sure all your ingredients are at room temperature for an even batter consistency. Don’t skip the salt! It enhances the flavor of chocolate and caramel immensely. If you're short on time, use store-bought caramel sauce for a quicker fix.
