Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  • In another bowl, cream the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  • Mix in the vanilla extract, then gradually add the flour mixture to the butter mixture, alternating with milk.
  • Gently fold in the chocolate chips.
  • Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans and smooth the tops.
  • Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean. Let cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack.
  • Prepare the cookie dough frosting by beating butter and brown sugar together, then adding flour and vanilla, mixing well.
  • Add milk one tablespoon at a time until desired consistency is reached. Fold in chocolate chips.
  • Once the cakes are cooled, spread frosting between the layers and on the top and sides of the cake.

Notes

Room temperature ingredients work best. The cake can be made ahead and stored in the fridge for up to three days. For presentation, top with extra chocolate chips.
