1 Hand Mixer or Stand Mixer For whipping butter and sugar until fluffy
1 Mixing Bowl Large enough for whipping ingredients
1 Rubber spatula To scrape down the sides
1 Measuring cups & spoons For accurate measurements
Main Ingredients
- 1 cup vegan butter Softened to room temperature
- 3 cups powdered sugar Sifted
- 0.5 cup unsweetened cocoa powder Dutch-processed preferred
- 3-4 tablespoons plant-based milk Oat, soy, or almond milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract Pure vanilla for best flavor
- 1/8 teaspoon salt Balances sweetness
Optional Add-ins
- 1 teaspoon espresso powder for mocha flavor
- 0.25 teaspoon peppermint extract for mint flavor
- 2 tablespoons creamy peanut butter for nutty flavor
In a large mixing bowl, beat softened vegan butter for 2–3 minutes until light and fluffy.
Gradually add cocoa powder and mix on low speed, then increase to medium until combined.
Slowly add powdered sugar, ½ cup at a time, mixing well after each addition.
Pour in plant-based milk and vanilla extract. Beat for another 1–2 minutes until smooth and creamy.
Increase speed to high and whip for 3–5 minutes. The frosting should become light, glossy, and spreadable.
If it’s too thick, add a bit more milk. If too thin, add extra powdered sugar.
Use immediately or store in the refrigerator. Re-whip before using for best texture.
For the richest flavor, use Dutch-processed cocoa powder.
Storage: Store frosting in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 7 days.
Freezing: You can freeze for up to 3 months. Thaw overnight, then re-whip before using.
Perfect for cakes, cupcakes, brownies, or cookies.
