Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 2 tablespoons matcha powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips (optional)

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line an 8x8-inch baking pan with parchment paper.
  • Melt the butter in a medium saucepan over low heat and then let it cool slightly.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the granulated and brown sugars. Pour the melted butter over the sugars and mix well.
  • Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, matcha powder, baking powder, and salt.
  • Slowly add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, folding gently until combined.
  • If using, fold in the chocolate chips.
  • Transfer the batter into the prepared pan and spread evenly.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 25–30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.
  • Let the brownies cool in the pan for 10–15 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely before slicing.

Notes

Use high-quality matcha for best results. Let brownies cool completely for best texture. Consider adding nuts or flavor extracts for variation.
